California Free Arrest Records

By Ben Kingsley

When an individual disobeys the rules of the nation or a state, an arrest record is generated for that person. Arrest records of California, better known as CA Arrest Records, are issued only to the local residents of California when they have committed crimes in the state. This type of document is one of the many documents that have been opened to the public, which means that the residents of California can access the arrest files whenever they need it.

Arrest records in California are used primarily for background check. Business owners would look into such documents to verify the identity of their people. This helps the company to avoid potential problems in the company and thus letting the business grow. Investigators and authorities would also refer to the arrest records of the state when they are doing their investigation. In some cases, the document can help resolve the case. Ordinary residents of the state also conduct a background check on the people surrounding them.

An arrest record would contain the arrest details such as the date and the place where the person was arrested or placed in custody. One would also know how the arrest was conducted through the documentation made by the officer in charge. All of the crimes and the offenses of the person can also be found on the file and this includes the charges and the sentence that the individual received. All of this information is only opened to the public once the case is closed.

The state of California allows individuals to request only their personal file. However, other people can still get a copy of the arrest record of another individual provided that they secure a court order. One has to fill out the application form for the retrieval of the file. The form should contain the basic information of the record that is being requested. This can be the name of the person on the file as well as the date and place of birth. One can also provide the Social Security number of the individual. The personal information of the one who filed the request has to be indicated on the application form. The fee would vary depending on the number of pages the document has since it cost 10 cents per page. The search can take up to 14 business days.

In California, the arrest records are archived at the office of the Public Records Ombudsman. The request can be done personally at the office or by sending a mail request. Requests can be prioritized when it was sent through mail. If all of the guidelines are followed the search can be smooth and the document can be delivered within 14 days, however, if there is a problem in the requirements, it may take longer.

Retrieval of a public arrest record in the state of California is now available through the Internet. Doing the search online is easier and faster since there is no need to go to any office and the results are displayed on the computer screen almost instantly. Several websites now even offer to get the document. Some would even let the users search without paying a cent.
